MIX: Mixed Climbing
Mixed Climbing is a technical and often intimidating form of climbing. It is a unique and necessary skill that allows you to reach new areas of the mountains. Whether your goals are to be more comfortable on thin ice, climb alpine objectives, or go for the send on your M10 project these clinics offer something for you.
This clinic includes a bit of everything on how to move over mixed terrain in the mountains to steep dry tooling and thin ice climbing. Designed to challenge intermediate to advanced climbers determined to improve their skills on everything from traditional mixed climbs and moving quickly on ice, to thin and narrow ice, snow up rock, and if you are up for it, a little bit of climbing upside down.

A longtime favorite at Bozeman Ice Fest is getting an upgrade. MIX255 has historically offered participants an incredible opportunity to dive into mixed climbing techniques in a warm, welcoming indoor setting and this year, we're allowing participants to do that indoors and out.
On Day One, you'll head to the Mountain Project mixed climbing and drytooling cave, where you'll get personalized, one-on-one instruction in everything from tool and foot placements to body positioning, creativity on mixed and dry terrain, and how to approach a variety of holds and sequences. It’s the perfect space to slow things down, ask questions, and build solid technical foundations without the added pressure of the outdoors.
Day Two is all about taking those skills to the real world. You’ll head into Hyalite Canyon to put what you’ve learned into action on actual routes. Expect in-depth instruction on how to transfer gym-learned techniques to outdoor terrain, tips for on-sighting or projecting, reading routes, and support as you tackle real climbs with new confidence and understanding.
Whether you’re new to mixed climbing or looking to refine your technique with close-up coaching and real terrain application, this clinic is for all levels and climbing experience.
